Duncan Rim & Rum was born from a shared journey rooted in service, heritage of overcoming and a love of bringing people together.
Jade and Caillum Duncan first met while working in the aviation industry at Victoria International Airport.
What began as a professional connection grew into a lifelong partnership, family, and eventually, a dream business years in the making.
Caillum later served in the Canadian Armed Forces as an Aerospace Control Operator, working in military air traffic control towers where discipline, leadership, and precision were essential. During this time, Jade balanced life as a mother while bartending on base, helping bring warmth and celebration to military events and community gatherings.
After returning home to Sidney, British Columbia — a proud seaside town where Caillum was born and raised — their long-held vision resurfaced. Together, they transformed their life experiences, cultures, and passions into Duncan Rim & Rum.
The brand’s identity reflects Caillum’s Scottish heritage and maritime roots. His family crest — symbolized by a ship under sail and featured in the logo — represents strength, legacy, and a lifelong connection to the sea. Fittingly, the meaning of his name in old Gaelic translates to “boy by the sea,” a reflection of his Vancouver Island upbringing.
Jade brings the warmth, hospitality, and spirit behind the bar. Originally from Ontario, she moved to Vancouver Island to live her dream of ocean life. With years of bartending and customer service experience, she leads the business with professionalism and genuine connection. Her Jamaican heritage — deeply tied to rum, sugar cane, positivity, and vibrant island culture — naturally became a cornerstone of Duncan Rim & Rum’s personality.
